The Aquafog XE-2000-EXP centrifugal fogging system is Jaybird’s largest atomizer, engineered for high-output industrial humidification, evaporative cooling, and environmental control in hazardous industrial environments requiring explosion-proof motor protection.

Unlike high-pressure nozzle systems or spinning disc foggers, the XE utilizes a nozzle-free centrifugal atomizer that helps eliminate clogging while delivering high-volume, ultra-fine fog dispersion.

The Explosion-Proof (EXP) configuration is designed for use in classified environments where hazardous vapors, dust, or combustible particles may be present. The motor is rated for Class I, Group D and Class II, Groups F & G locations.

Important – Explosion-Proof Power Connection
Explosion-proof units must be connected using properly rated explosion-proof electrical utilities, including both the male plug and matching female receptacle.

Using a standard non-rated plug, receptacle, or power connection will defeat the explosion-proof protection of the unit.

Jaybird offers an optional explosion-proof male plug for the unit power cord; however, the receiving female receptacle and all associated electrical components must also be properly rated and supplied by the customer or installing contractor.

XE 2000 systems produce tiny particles that evaporate quickly for humidification and evaporative cooling. Output is regulated by a stainless-steel visual flowmeter panel and can be operated continuously or automated using a secondary controller.

Indoor/Outdoor applications include: Humidification, Evaporative Cooling, and Chemical Fogging.

Stainless-steel fabrication and UV-stabilized polymers allow for harsh-environment use. The EXP model includes 20’ of water line and 16’ of drainage line. Line lengths may be customized during the ordering process.

Hazardous Environment Humidification Applications

The Jaybird Aquafog XE-2000-EXP explosion-proof fogger is designed for humidification and evaporative cooling in hazardous or classified environments where standard industrial equipment cannot be safely installed. Equipped with an explosion-proof motor and heavy-duty construction, the XE-2000-EXP allows facilities to control humidity while maintaining strict safety requirements.

This configuration is commonly used in chemical processing facilities, petroleum operations, industrial manufacturing plants, and other environments where combustible dust, vapors, or hazardous conditions may be present.

Aquafog SST Flowmeter Panel

Turbo XEs come with a visual flowmeter panel of your choice.

The flowmeter panel connects to a pressurized water supply and allows the operator to monitor and adjust the water feed rate going to the XE atomizer. A precision needle valve regulates the flow, while the clear polycarbonate meter provides easy visual confirmation of system operation.

Explosion-proof direct-feed units should always be paired with an appropriately rated explosion-proof water shutoff valve. This ensures water flow stops automatically whenever power to the unit is interrupted or cycled off. Because explosion-proof control components vary by installation and area classification, shutoff valves, controls, receptacles, and associated electrical components must be provided by the customer or installing contractor.

Lower feed rates generally produce a drier, finer fog. Higher feed rates produce heavier fog, larger droplets, and more drain-off.

Selection Tip: If in doubt, do not automatically choose the largest flowmeter. Select the smallest meter that comfortably covers your intended feed rate.

Important: At higher feed rates, excess water is discharged through the drain tube and droplet size increases. Lower-range meters are generally preferred for dry fog and humidification work, while higher-range meters are better suited for high-output evaporative cooling applications.

Water Control Note: Explosion-proof direct-feed Turbo XE units should always include an appropriately rated explosion-proof shutoff valve (or equivalent control device) to automatically stop water flow whenever power to the unit is interrupted or cycled off. All electrical controls, shutoff valves, plugs, and receptacles must be customer supplied and matched to the site’s required hazardous location classification.

How Jaybird Atomizes Water Without Nozzles

Jaybird fog systems use a patented centrifugal atomizing blade developed in 1986. Water enters a reservoir behind the fan blade and is forced through internal channels inside each blade. As the blade spins, centrifugal force drives water toward the blade tips where it exits through precision openings.

At the blade tip, several processes occur simultaneously:

  • The rotating blade atomizes the water into fine droplets
  • A venturi accelerates airflow around the blade
  • A ring of atomizing pins further breaks droplets into fog
  • Particle size is variable and desired size can be controlled by the feed rate

This multi-stage atomization process allows Jaybird systems to produce large volumes of fog while using a simple, reliable design with no high-pressure pumps or clogging nozzles.

The result is powerful fog production, strong air propulsion, and long-term reliability.
